Kaspersky Lab announces that Eugene Kaspersky, the company’s chairman and CEO, will be speaking at the 82nd INTERPOL General Assembly next week. The annual gathering of INTERPOL’s supreme governing body, bringing together representatives from all member countries, will be held in Cartagena, Colombia, on October 21-24, 2013.

Eugene’s presentation will address a wide range of problems in connection with cybercrime, including how international cooperation can help in tackling it. His speech will start on October 21 at 14:30 local time (GMT -5 hours).

On the sidelines of the summit, Eugene will be comparing notes with INTERPOL’s leaders and meeting top law enforcers from all around the world.

Earlier this year Kaspersky Lab agreed to work closely with the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) and join forces in fighting international cyberthreats. The company will be sharing its cybersecurity expertise with the IGCI, which will be fully operational from next year.

Commenting on his participation in INTERPOL’s General Assembly meeting in Colombia, Eugene Kaspersky said: “Global cooperation in fighting and preventing cybercrime is essential if we want to have a safer world tomorrow. Cyberthreats are growing both in number and sophistication, so it’s of vital importance for the whole world to be prepared for targeted attacks from criminals, hacktivists and even terrorists. Not long ago, things like terror cyberattacks on critical infrastructure were something unthinkable; now we believe they represent a tangible threat.”

He also said how glad he was that Kaspersky Lab has such strong ties with INTERPOL: “I think that this partnership with INTERPOL will help in moving us a step closer to a more secure world, and I’m proud to be a part of this initiative. We strongly believe that such a public-private project brings significant benefits for the whole global community. And Kaspersky Lab would welcome other security vendors – including our direct competitors – to join in, as together we can make a bigger difference, better protect the world, and more effectively fight back against the bad guys.”
